Town of Navassa still without permanent police chief

The Town of Navassa is still without a permanent police chief. Former chief, Ricky Thorpe, resigned after being arrest for drunk driving in a patrol car, but his voice is still on the department's answering machine. Wendell Graham was a detective for Navassa, he is now serving as the interim chief of police, but the search continues to try to find someone to fill the position permanently. "It's been going ok; my main concern is the town, and keeping it peaceful. I've been getting some help from other area agencies," said Graham. Graham is currently working with two other officers within the town, and hopes to bring at least two more on board. The department has been getting help when it needs it from agencies like Northwest and Leland police departments.
