McIver's Funeral

READ MORE:
Hundreds of people gathered today at the Union Missionary Baptist Church to remember 23-year-old Phillipe McIver. He was the man killed in a police-involved shooting last week. Some of McIver's friends say the funeral brings peace, closure and an end to the some of the pain. Others say it is just the beginning. A police cruiser lead McIver’s family to the Union Missionary Baptist Church, at the request of his mother. Authorities then stayed behind the trees where they were out of sight and out of mind. Since McIver's death tension in the community has been high. Some people that knew him believe police could have used a non-violent method to handle the situation. When it comes down to it though, family and friends just miss McIver and want the pain to end. McIver’s cousin, Karen McClendon says, "I'm at peace today. I'm glad it is finally coming to an end, but far from an end you know we got a long ways to go, but I'm just proud of everybody for keeping the peace right now." After the funeral, McIver was laid to rest in the Calvary Cemetery. Last week's fatal shooting is still being investigated by the State Bureau of Investigation.
