You have a reading comprehension problem. The story, no where, says that he shot one of his dogs. It says..."attack in his yard where he shot and killed a pit bull." The story also says.."he heard his dog barking." Lets sum up. He heard his dog barking came out and saw two pit bulls that attacked him. He shot one of the pit bulls and the other ran off to later be captured. No word on the condition of the deputy's dog.
