AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- One day after the deadly shooting rampage at Virginia Tech, jitters are being felt at universities elsewhere.
In Austin, Texas, authorities evacuated buildings at St. Edward's University after a threatening note was found. Police secured the perimeter around the campus and searched the buildings.
Three campus administration buildings at the University of Tennessee in Chattannooga were ordered evacuated for almost two hours this morning in response to a telephone bomb threat. Nothing was found. A spokesman says, "We just chose to err on the side of caution."
The third scare, at the University of Oklahoma, was also determined to be unfounded. Officials say it started with a report of a man carrying a suspicious object on campus. That object turned out to be an umbrella. In the meantime, buildings on the campus were temporarily locked down.
