the contract read "A comparable facility...within 8 miles...". None of the Gold Gym locations are/were comparable. I was one of the 300+ that filed a complaint with the AG's office. Although I joined Port City when they took over, I still had to pay for my membership at Peak. I am getting a full refund of what I paid ABC Financial from the time Peak closed until my one year contract expired. When Peak was selling memberships in 2007, they told everyone they were building a new facility at the corner of Carolina Beach Road and Shipyard, that permits were in place, and that the facility should open in early 2008. They lied, they knew they were lying, and thankfully, enough of us complained. Not only here in Wilmington, but state-wide. It wasn't just attorneys that made this happen, but the collective voices of all.
