YADKINVILLE, N.C. (AP) -- The state Highway Patrol says a 10-year-old Yadkinville boy is dead after crashing the pickup he was driving early this morning.
The patrol says it received a report shortly before 1:30 that a vehicle was being driven erratically in a yard and had hit a mailbox. The trooper tried to stop the truck when the driver sped off.
The report says the 1995 Dodge pickup truck sped east on a rural road before going off the right shoulder, crossing the road and heading up a small embankment before hitting some trees.
Authorities identified the driver as Brandon Channel Rudisill. A passenger, identified as 7-year-old Caleb Penley, was taken to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, where a spokeswoman says he'd being treated.
