UNCW students take part in national MLK Day Challenge

Dozens of UNC Wilmington students are helping the community as part of the National Martin Luther King Day Challenge. The 35 students are cleaning and painting Girls Inc., a non-profit organization that empowers at-risk youth in downtown Wilmington. The supplies to clean and re-paint the facility were provided by the government's Community Service Initiative. The students all donated their time. UNCW student, Amber Wilson said, "A lot of people refer to MLK Day as not a day off, but a day on. A day to remember struggles in the past and just try to give back and do something positive today other than just sleeping in." The Girls Inc. of Wilmington building that was re-painted houses a non-profit program that focuses on inspiring young girls with mentorship and tutoring programs.
