Motorists blame local war protesters for distracting drivers

READ MORE:
WILMINGTON -- The intersection of College Road and Oleander Drive is one of the busiest In Wilmington. “I think anyone on the side of the road is distracting to drivers, especially on a major intersection like this," local motorist Adam Fink said. Fink believes the anti-war protesters are making the intersection even more dangerous. Last week five cars crashed into each other at the intersection near the picketers. “I don’t believe our picketing was the cause of the accident.” Steve Lee is the organizer of the Wilmington Peace Meetup Group; he says the anti-war protesters only want to divert people’s minds, not their eyes. “The police department has asked us to simply stand to comply with the permit, be a certain distance back from the intersection, and not use hand motions and signals that would be confusing to motorists and we certainly intend to do that,” Lee said. Lee says the protest will last through May and is considering moving his group to another location.
