North Carolina's Wright to test NBA waters

Story body

CHAPEL HILL (AP) -- North Carolina freshman Brandan Wright plans to enter his name in this summer's NBA draft.

The 6-foot-9 forward and ACC rookie of the year made the announcement today at a news conference with coach Roy Williams.

Wright says he doesn't plan to sign with an agent yet, which would keep open the possibility of returning to school next year.

Wright is expected by many to be a high first-round pick thanks to his long, lean frame and soft shooting touch around the basket. He ranked second on the team at nearly 15 points and six-point-two rebounds a game.

He also shot 64.6 percent to lead the ACC while setting the league's freshman record.

As for Wright's teammates, Tyler Hansbrough has said he would return for his junior season instead of going to the NBA. Rookies Ty Lawson and Wayne Ellington also say they'll return to the Tar Heels for their sophomore seasons.
