Camp Lejeune Marine, Fort Bragg soldier die in Iraq

RALEIGH (AP) -- The Defense Department says two servicemen based in North Carolina were killed during combat in Iraq.

Lance Corporal Jeffery A. Bishop died Friday in Anbar province. He was 23 and from Dickson, Tennessee.

Private Michael J. Slater, a 19-year-old from Scott Depot, West Virginia, died Saturday in Taji

Bishop died during combat operations, but no further details about his death were immediately available.

He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 6th Marines, Regimental Combat Team 6, 2nd Marine Division, Second Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune.

The military says Slater died from wounds he suffered when his vehicle rolled over during combat operations.

He was assigned to the 407th Brigade Support Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg.
