This week, the i-Desk has covered all aspects of internet dating, from dangers to safety precautions. We heard the frightening stories of one woman's quest to find true love online, now we have the story of two successful online romances. One couple met on the internet a decade ago and the other crossed the globe to be together after a year of chatting online. Both are very happily married. Pauline and Bill fell in love nine years ago from opposite sides of the equator in a place they never expected… a Yahoo chat room. They talked online almost every day and night for a year not knowing what each other looked like. From Indonesia, Pauline flew to Wilmington to meet her mystery man, and it was love at first flight. Lynnette and Scott Higgins are smiling because they've been happily married for thirteen years, all thanks to an internet chat room run by the University of Iowa back when the World Wide Web didn't even exist. After five months, they decided to meet in person. Scott came to North Carolina from Indiana to meet Lynnette who he had only chatted with through the University of Iowa chat room. “He was the tallest one who got off the plane, and that's how I knew who he was," said Lynette. While they owe their initial meeting to the internet, these two couples say they just clicked. Lynnette actually doesn't recommend internet dating these days because now, she says it's a whole different ball game. Pauline says before she met her honey, she had a bad experience with a man who flew to see her in Indonesia and was not who he said he was. We'll continue to report on internet love and we'd love to hear from you. If you have a story to share whether it be good, bad or cautionary, contact Hailey Winslow at firstname.lastname@example.org.
