All ambulances and fire trucks are always "plugged in" when not in use. That is how they are designed.
The ambulance did not "explode", nor did an explosion cause the event. The "explosion" occurred when the large medical oxygen tank ruptured after being overheated by the burning vehicle. These are in all ambulances to take care of sick people!
The fire happened before 6am in the morning and the Southport fire department responded as it was in their area. They put the fire out and were there for a few hours cleaning up. Later that morning (around 9am) the Village staff taped off the area and covered the ambulance.
Good job Fire Dept! Things happen!
