WILMINGTON (AP) -- Some Pender County residents are upset over a wildfire that scorched more than 15-hundred acres this week. They're asking why a burning permit was issued in the midst of dry and windy weather.
NC Forest Service spokeswoman Teresa Odom says she received a lot of calls Tuesday from concerned residents about why a burn permit was issued during Monday's conditions. Odom says if the property owner had a permit, then it was legal for the owner to burn on their property.
Odom says the forest service continues to investigate the incident.
No one was injured and there was no property damage.
