History came to life today in Pender County. This weekend marks the 233rd anniversary of the Battle of Moore's Creek Bridge. A reenactment drew visitors to the battleground in Currie on Saturday. In 1776 the battle of Moore's Creek Bridge, between the loyalists and the patriots, helped bring about the Revolutionary War. Encampments were set up on both sides of the bridge showing where colonists slept, how they cooked, and what they wore. "This marks a celebration of those people who came to this site where we're standing and fought for their freedom as well as those who fought for the opportunity to be loyal to the King of England,” said Tyrone Brandy, the Burgaw National Park superintendent. The festivities continue on Sunday.
