Former Oak Island police dispatcher is suing town

In a lawsuit filed Monday, Leah Welch claims she was sexually harassed by her former Sergeant Paul Demello. Demello resigned from the Oak Island Police force last summer when allegations of sexual harassment became public. Town Attorney Brian Edes said he does not believe the allegations have any merit. Welch is seeking damages of more than ten thousand dollars.
