If you look closely, you'll find the many hidden treasures tucked away in the MacRae Garden, which is just one of a dozen beautiful gardens featured in this years Azalea Garden Tour. The garden is a masterpiece created by Rachel Camp. The undertaking took five years and a lot of dedication, as an unlikely plot of land became a sprawling garden. “This yard was built on a baseball diamond. We had to fill in and move every single thing in here,” Camp said. One might say Rachel Camp was born with a green thumb. She comes from a long line of gardeners who told her a garden is more than just a few specially placed flowers. “The garden should be an extension of the house, if you don't do that you miss out a lot. Provided you love the outdoors which I do,” Camp explained. This year will be the first time the MacRae Garden will be featured on tour. It's also the first time Ann Sloan's garden will be on tour. She has been spending every waking minute outdoors, to get her space ready to show. She calls it a true labor of love. "Sometimes frustrating, sometimes I want to quit. But when I see the results I love it." The focal point of the garden has to be the 2,000-gallon koi pond complete with a flowing stream. Both gardeners say the garden tour makes it their hard work worthwhile, especially because they know it's for a good cause. Money earned from the garden tour goes back to the community, in the form of scholarships and grants.
