Disney picks Georgia for Cyrus flick

READ MORE:

It looks like Miley Cyrus will not make a movie in Wilmington after all.

Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue announced yesterday the Disney movie The Last Song will be filmed in and around Savannah this summer. Georgia had been contending with North Carolina for the film, which the governor's office says will bring about 250 jobs to the state.

The script is by novelist Nicholas Sparks. Movies based on his books A Walk to Remember and Night in Rodanthe were filmed in Wilmington and other parts of North Carolina.

North Carolina Governor Bev Perdue had planned to announce during a visit to Wilmington last week that the movie would shoot at Screen Gems Studios' new "Dream Stage," her staff pulled the plug on the media event 15 minutes after the governor was scheduled to arrive. At the time sources told WWAY Disney was not ready to make a public statement. The state later revealed the delay was caused by Georgia, which has a higher tax incentive for film projects than North Carolina, getting into the mix to lure the production.
