Those of us with a few years under our belt remember a very nice, conservative Southern state called Maryland in the Sixties. By the end of the Seventies, it was a haven for the left-wing loons. Virginia was totally lost by the Nineties. It's our turn now: Too many Northeastern liberal retirees, a concerted effort by academia and the media, and increasing minority voting mean that North Carolina is simply the latest victim of a new kind of "blue flu." The four S's (Socialists, simpletons, suckers, and sc**bags) are in control, and as long as they're in the majority, you're going to accomplish nothing via the ballot box.
