Erosion from storms threatens N.C. beaches

TOPSAIL BEACH, N.C. (AP) -- The coastal storm churning the ocean along North Carolina's southern coast has left some beaches badly eroded. And dozens of oceanfront buildings are now at risk.

In Topsail Beach, just north of Wilmington, about 70 structures are listed as imminently threatened.

Mayor Butch Parrish says he'll request emergency permits for bulldozers so a stronger dune line can be built in front of the threatened structures.

Parrish says it's only a Band-Aid solution -- but the town needs to do something quick for the short-term.

The storm also has affected Wrightsville Beach, where a deep ridge was carved at high tide Tuesday.
