WILMINGTON -- Temperatures are heating up again -- time to get outdoors and have some fun in the sun. And being so close to the beach fun in the sun isn't hard to come by. WWAY NewsChannel 3's Stephanie Beecken shows us one of the kayak tours available in our own backyard. The Salt Marsh Kayak Company offers more than six different kayak tours. I took the salt marsh tour with guide Colin Eagles. Eagles said, "We're going to go learn a little bit about kayaking and you're going to go out and were going to go on the north end of Wrightsville Beach… go back to the marsh, do a little bit of bird watching and let you see what this whole ecosystem looks like." Before we got underway I had to learn the basics of kayaking on dry land. Eagles said, "If you use a death grip on your paddle you will kill that part of your thumb right there. You will get a blister inside 30 minutes." You're not allowed to step in the kayak, so it takes a little maneuvering to get yourself settled in. Once you're comfortable it's time to start paddling. "Whether it's shrimp, snail, oyster or crab they are all at some point in their life in this marsh back here," Eagles said. The salt march tour is so peaceful and the water is only two to three feet deep, so you don't have to worry about boats or Seadoos coming by at 30 mph creating wake. The Salt Marsh Kayak tour is a great way to wrap up a week of beach adventures. For more information on the kayak tours visit http://saltmarshkayak.com/
