I think the citizens who defend Titan Cement Plant are wearing blinders. 80% of cement plants have had violations over the past five years. Titan has had violations in their VA and Florida plants and a judge has ordered their FLorida Plant closed due to evidence of carcinogens released into drinking water.
The supposed 160 jobs are not worth the money it will cost to battle the consequences. Over 200 area physicians oppose this plant. Tourists are horrified to hear that there is a plant proposed so close to a river and over an aquifier.
People who defend Titan Cement seem to not really think ahead to what it will mean to their children. We have a chance to stop this but we need help. I spoke with a gentleman yesterday who had worked in the cement industry. He was visiting the area for the first time and he kept saying, "Don't let them tell you it won't hurt the area. Don't believe it. I've had friends die because of the respiratory problems caused by the plant." He was visibly angry and shaken by the possibility that a plant would be built here so close to the water.
