New rules in effect for crossing the border home

If you are traveling this summer, new rules are now in effect for Americans on their way home from certain foreign destinations. People entering the United States from Mexico, Canada and the Caribbean need to show a passport, Trusted Traveler Card or Enhanced Driver License. The idea is to create a more uniform standard for crossing the border. The requirements were put in place after September 11th, 2001, but put off because of long delays processing passport applications. For the next couple of months, border agents will let people through with a warning and a background check. After that they will need the proper documentation.
