Two construction companies face fines and violations in Oak Island Bridge accident

Two construction companies must pay more than $9,000 in fines for the death of a man during construction of the new Oak Island Bridge. The state Labor Department fined Lee Construction $6,300 for four serious violations of the Occupational Safety and Health Act. Barnhill Contracting was fined $2,800 for one serious violation. The beam collapse in December killed worker Jose Montalvo.
