Perhaps this story might've been covered a little bit better..or at the very least, from the standpoint of the crew members who will go on..and those that have no family waiting for them when they arrive, simply because they hail from a different part of the country.
Our son, FN Satya Ciulla, returned home to Wilmington on the Diligence..
it, too, is his last patrol..as he was accepted and will start Class A School on 6/15 in Elizabeth City..where he will begin training as a helicopter rescue swimmer.
He is from IL..but lives in Wilmington, where he served a tour in Iraq with the 30th Heavy Separate Brigade, as a former National Guardsman..He returned to UNC-W after his tour in Iraq, and picked up where he left off at the time of his deployment, returning to school and rec'ing a Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science Physiology, in spite of having experienced the trauma of having his vehicle be hit by a roadside bomb.. resulting in the death of his passenger and injury to his gunner. When his contract witht the NCNG ended, he enlisted with the CG and graduated last year from the Coast Guard recieving 2 of 5 awards given in his class, both the Leadership and Physical Fitness Awards..
His ultimate goal is to be a Helicopter Resccue Swimmer, and he is now on his way, while still residing in Wilmington. FN Satya Ciulla, was also a lifeguard in North Myrtle Beach.
