There are all kinds of laws out there that try to idiot proof and protect our society... building and electrical codes, helment laws, etc...
Why can't we pass a federal law to protect consumers that says all wireless modem manufacturers (Netgear, Linksys and the like) must ship their devices already password protected... or force the user to set a password when setting up the device. That way the owner of the device has to go out of his or her way to make it open.
I think most people leave their modems unprotected because they don't know how to password protect them or are just too lazy.
How About a Law?
