Two brothers have created a website, TheSpecialSpot.com, where you can find out the specials at nearly every restaurant in Wilmington. “I'm actually on a furlough day today so, money's a little tight these days, so just trying to conserve and save as much money as I can,” said Robb Turbeville of Wilmington. Robb Turbeville still eats out occasionally; he can afford it, by taking advantage of restaurant specials. Now he can check out the specials around town without leaving the house at the TheSpecialSpot.com. “Basically it started out, we would always ask where are we going to eat tonight, what are we going to do tonight and then it kind of molded into alright let's start this website where we go out and we find the food and drink specials to inform everybody else about,” said co-founder Travis Beatty. You can search for specials by location, meal, or restaurant name; a map will pinpoint and direct you to straight to your meal. Steve Melia and his wife frequent the website to catch all the food and drink deals. "It's got over 500 restaurants that we can choose from, so we can still eat out, we can still save money, so for us it's been a home run." If you use social networking sites, you can stay connected to The Special Spot there are well. “We have links to our Facebook fan page and Twitter where you can follow us on both. When I put a special up on the website, it filters through Facebook and Twitter, so if you're following us, either way you'll get the special update,” said Travis Beatty. The Special Spot brothers say for each person who becomes a Facebook fan, they will donate 25 cents to support cancer research. In addition to Wilmington, they have started The Special Spot pages for Seattle and Richmond. They hope to go nationwide.
