Google Earth allows us to explore the world from a whole new perspective. If you search ‘Cape Fear Community College’ at Google Earth, you can now check out the campus in three dimensions, thanks to a project completed by CFCC graphic designer Don Perkins. Two years ago, Perkins took pictures of school buildings and constructed them into 3-D models of the campus using a program called sketch-up. The models have finally been approved. "You use the correct software to build your models into proper shapes, map pictures of the building to the sides of these shapes, and submit it to Google,” Perkins said. David Hardin, a CFCC spokesperson, thinks this presence will be especially appealing to future students. "Having a 3-D presence on Google Earth is a unique feature that no one else in Wilmington has taken advantage of, so it adds a little bit to the 'wow!' factor of using that technology and helping find Cape Fear Community College on the World Wide Web." If you'd like to view Cape Fear Community College in 3-D, make sure you have the 3-D box checked, which is under the "layers" tab on the left hand side of Google Earth.
