Burgaw Angels move on to Dixie Softball World Series

The weeklong Dixie Girls Softball State Championships wrapped up Wednesday night at the Cape Fear Optimist Park in New Hanover County. The Burgaw Angels tallied a walk off win in Game One by a score of 3-2. Then they took Game Two 6-0 to win the Ten and Under State Dixie Title. Burgaw will now represent the Tar Heel state at the Dixie Softball World Series in Sumter, South Carolina, later this month. “We went undefeated in districts, had a great time at districts, everyone of these girls, each and everyone of them have done something special in their own way to get us as far as we have,” said Burgaw Angels coach Mike Savage. The Angels were not the only team from Burgaw playing for the state championship. The Burgaw Darlings played West Lincoln for the Eight and Under State Title. Burgaw won game one 11-10 to force a winner-take-all contest, but the Darlings lost the finale 11-10. West Lincoln will advance.
