People lined up early to welcome the newest retailer to town and take advantage of some big sales Thursday afternoon. The grand opening of hhgregg at Mayfaire saw hundreds of people lined up early for the 3:00 p.m. opening, looking for deals on appliances and electronics. “We have lines wrapped around the building, but you know each and every time we appreciate it, we're excited about it,” said hhgregg VP Gregg Throgmartin. Once the ribbon was cut, people were off to find the savings. Plenty of sales people, including Jeffrey Pauk, were on hand to help the customers find what they were looking for. “Quite frankly, I’ve been with the company for 18 months and we get a tremendous amount of training, so we're able to put them in the right direction.” Some used carts, others carried what they could, but everyone was happy to welcome the store and stimulate the economy. “I just got wind of it today, from us coming out here to Barnes and Noble. We were like ‘wow, what's the hype?’ So my wife and I just walked over and it's like wow-wee,” said Terrence Williams. “What our model is, is we compete on price, nobody's going to pay us a single dollar more for better customer service. But we differentiate on our knowledge and our service,” Throgmartin said. hhgregg has 16 stores throughout North Carolina. The new store will employee 40 commission based sales people as well as several management positions.
