Most of the comments shown here are valid - except in this case Mr. Soles knew the person standing at his door - it was a client for crying out loud; it was broad daylight; and from the accounts he wasn't trying to break in, he was knocking loudly on the door - therefore it appears Mr. Soles violated NC law. And, I don't believe a shotgun is covered by a concealed weapon permit. It should be fairly easy to verify with the hospital whether the wound was to the front or the back of his client's leg and were they shotgun pellets or a bullet.
