Unless there are enough customers to make an investment by a provider pay off, you're not getting broadband.
ATMC has accomplished the 80% coverage by launching a 3G wireless network. That said, the most rural, Northwestern areas of Brunswick County remain uncovered. Unless a tower pays for itself in a reasonable length of time, the tower is not being built.... and really rural towers have a really long payback time.
One of the trade-offs is that when you enjoy the peace, quiet, and wildlife of living out in the sticks, you have to give up some of the amenities people in town receive.
I'd rather have the deer and fox in my backyard than cable, anyway.
