The legacy of Wilmington homeless man lives on. Dane Hobbs passed away last week and now a local teen is starting a food drive in his honor. A Myspace page has been set up to remember the man folks in the Ogden area call the "Ogden Santa" because of his long white beard. Folks say Hobbs was often seen walking up and down Market and Gordon Road. Laney High School junior Alex Babb is organizing a food drive in honor of him. She says kindness toward others is a way to see that Hobbs' spirit lives on. ”I just feel like its because people always gave him food and helped him out and it's a way to keep that going, cause even though he's not here, it doesn't mean you should stop. If anything, you should do it more,” she said. Folks in the neighborhood have continued to remember Hobbs, leaving signs, flowers and his picture by the home where his body was found. The food drive is set for sometime in December, significant because of the Santa nickname. If you would like to help organize, you can visit the Myspace Ogden Santa page.
