Health inspectors found one low performer and six high performers in their most recent inspection of area restaurants.
This week's lowest score belongs to the Black Horn in Carolina Beach. Three points off because the dishwasher was not sanitizing and there were dirty knives, cutting boards and a slicer. Cheeses, buttermilk, sour cream and milk were stored at 50 degrees.Several employee drinks were found uncovered on the bar and on opened cover for ice bin. And all equipment needed detailed cleaning. Thirteen violations in all and a score of 85 for the Black Horn.
This week's highest score belongs to Rucker Johns in Monkey Junction. A perfect 100 plus two points for workers passing a food safety course and a score of 102.
Around the corner to J. Michael's Philly Deli on Piner Road. A half point off because ice scoops were stored improperly. Add back the two-point bonus for a score of 101.5.
The same score of 101.5 across college road at McDonald's. A half point off because the ice chute on the drink line needs cleaning.
To the north side of town. Just a half point deduction at the Bento Box on Military Cutoff because a gasket for the refrigeration unit and a utensil tray need cleaning.
Same score up the street in Landfall, where they need to clean the bottom of the fryers in the kitchen of the Nicklaus Clubhouse.
Finally to Highway 421 and Faye's Café. The floors and walls need cleaning. A half point off and a score of 99.5.
