Fall begins Tuesday, time to enjoy NC foliage

Get ready to say good-bye to summer. Tuesday marks the first day of fall and that may have you thinking of taking a trip to the mountains. Members of the Asheville Convention and Visitor Bureau say we have one of the best fall color shows in the country right here in our state. More than 100 species of leaf shedding trees will soon turn vibrant color, helped in part by the large amount of recent rain. You may be surprised to hear there's not really a peak time to visit. “Another great thing about the Blue Ridge Mountains is we have longest fall color seasons in the country because of range of trees and variety of elevation starts end of September can go through November 15th,” said Dodie Stephens of the Asheville Convention and Visitor Bureau. You can see the leaves up close by enjoying any of the more than 2,000 miles of hiking and biking trails, white water rafting, and new this year, zipline canopy tours where you can go flying through the colorful trees.
