New Hanover High players, parents looking for more time on Legion Stadium field

New Hanover High School lacrosse supporters are pushing for the teams to have more time at Legion Stadium. Right now, boys and girls lacrosse teams play most of their games on the back field at Legion, and are each granted one game per season on the main field. Coaches and parents are asking for the teams to have more time on the main field, which has better conditions. So far, that request has been denied because of contracts with the Hammerheads and other events at Legion, but it is an issue the Legion Stadium Commission is considering changing. "The school wants more use but they're not really coming to the table with the funds. They're looking for the county to do so and we can only fund so much,” said Jason Thompson. “So the problem in my opinion is that the school board has allowed too many sports to become varsity and with title nine, they can't pay for it." Thompson said the main field can only take so much use. There are plans to make improvements to the PA system and bleachers at the second field.
