There is more backing for New Hanover High School lacrosse supporters Thursday night. Right now, boys and girls lacrosse teams play most of their games on the second field at Legion Stadium. Coaches and parents are asking for the teams to have more time on the main field. More than two-hundred supporters have signed a petition supporting the team’s efforts. Administrators, the schools, and the city must find a fair solution. Assistant superintendent Rick Holliday said, “We want our athletes at New Hanover high School to enjoy the same benefits that they enjoy at Hoggard, Ashley, and Laney who have their own outdoor venues. So we would like for New Hanover High School to get as much play as possible on the main field.” New Hanover County Schools have a contract with the city that says schools will have first priority at Legion, but so far, requests for more time on the main field have been denied because of contracts with the Hammerheads and other events.
