North Carolina Journalism Hall of Famer dies at 92

A Brunswick County woman who once ran for lieutenant governor has died. Margaret Taylor Harper died Sunday in Durham from complications after a stroke. She was 92. Harper ran for, and lost the Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor in 1968 an 1972. A member of the North Carolina Journalism Hall of Fame, she edited the State Port Pilot Newspaper in Southport for her husband while he served in World War II. A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Southport. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. in the Church Fellowship Hall.
