City Council looking for the perfect hotel

READ MORE: City Council looking for the perfect hotel
What better way to design the perfect hotel, than to see how other hotels in the area operate. From cushy beds to an on-site restaurant; these things often factor into making the "perfect" hotel. "All of us would like to see a nice lobby, with high finishes within the lobby. We want nice looking rooms and see how those rooms will be furnished," said Mayor Bill Saffo. From the Hilton Garden Inn at Mayfaire, to the Downtown Riverfront Hilton, council traveled by trolley across town, checking out amenities and layouts. The idea is to help them make the right decision when it comes to planning the new convention center hotel. City council member Margaret Haynes said, "It will behoove us to really prioritize what we want, think about what we want and put that in our request for a quota or proposal." The first time around, the council had to end their plan to put Hotel Indigo alongside the convention center. The hotel group could not prove financially capable of securing the site, so the council decided to move on. The goal of Friday's exercise was to take a good look at what works and does not work when it comes to pleasing a diverse group of guests. "Everyone is traveling around, having talks and discussions. Going from location to location is very important when it comes to making a decision in this group," added council member Kristi Tomey. And most importantly, finding out what will make conventioneers choose the port city year after year. The council will review their tour today, and meet over the next two weeks to finalize a proposal and a quote.
