New Hanover County will have a new middle school next year; Holly Shelter Middle School. But it requires shifting students around. The second of three public forums on redistricting took place Monday night at Noble Middle School. Parents who want to deliver a clear message to the New Hanover County School Board packed the gym. They want the board to select a neighborhood school option. “Would busing help individual children or will in just help spread statistics evenly throughout our school district,” asked Meredith Swanson. “More children and future generations would benefit from this investment. Please support neighborhood schools and switch gears to focus on increasing proficiency at all schools.” New Hanover County's seven middle schools are approximately 500 students over capacity. One of the current redistricting options has Ogden students being bussed to the new Holly Shelter Middle School in Castle Hayne. The final forum is Tuesday at Williston Middle School.
