FAR HILLS, N.J. (AP) -- Two North Carolina golfers have qualified for next week's U-S Open championship at Oakmont Country Club in suburban Pittsburgh.
Darron Stiles of Pinehurst fired a 12-under par 131 at Colonial Country Club's North and South courses in Memphis, Tennessee to lead the list of 16 qualifiers there. His score included a second-round 62.
Six shots behind Stiles in Memphis was Charlotte's Johnson Wagner, who had rounds of 65 and 72 for a 137 total, one of five golfers to post that score.
Smithfield's Neal Lancaster is among the group of alternates. He shot 143, just missing out on one of five spots up for grabs in qualifying at North Riverside, Illinois.
