Pirates invade Southport this weekend! Starting Thursday, the scurvy dogs will set up camp. Then Saturday, walk the pirate camps and watch a living history to learn what it was like to be a pirate. Music performances begin both nights at 6:00 p.m. on the Fort Johnston Garrison lawn. Friday night, the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office is holding a fall festival. It is from 6:00 until 9:00 on the walking trail in front of the government complex in Bolivia. There will be food, hayrides, pumpkin decorating and a costume contest. Here is something for the adult witches and vampires. The Cameron Art Museum's Haunt 2009 begins at 8:00 Friday night and ends at midnight. There is going to be food, drinks, music and a costume contest. The $50 ticket includes beer and wine. Parents, are you looking for a fun and safe alternative to trick or treating through neighborhoods? Here you go. Saturday night, Burgaw is holding a Trunk or Treat event at Courthouse Square at 6:00 p.m. But first, don't miss the pet parade and costume contest starting at 12:30 that afternoon. It is $5 to enter, followed by a costume contest for kids at 4:00 p.m. In northern Brunswick County, there is a Trunk or Treat in Leland. It starts at 5:00 and ends at 7:00 at Leland Municipal Park on Town Hall Drive. Down in Holden Beach, there is a Trunk or Treat Saturday at Holden Beach Pavilion. It starts at 5:00 and ends at 7:30. There will also be games, a costume contest and pumpkin painting. And for some Pender County Halloween fun, head to Hampstead for the 4th Annual Trick or Treat in the Park. It begins at 5:00 and ends at 8:00. In Wilmington, take your kids to Independence Mall to Trick-or-Treat. It is Saturday from 4:00 until 6:00. The first 500 people to bring a canned good for the Food Bank will receive a goodie bag. Do you want to stay in the spirit of the holiday and check out all things creepy and crawly? Halyburton Park is showing off scary creepy critters like bats and spiders from 1:30 until 3:00. It is for kids ages six to ten. The event is three dollars per person. You must pre-register at 341-0075. Saturday, polish your fender and dust your dash for the Eleventh Annual Brits and Battleship Car Show. It is happening at the Battleship North Carolina. It begins at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 3:30. If you want to enter your car, it is $30. It is free if you just want to check out the cars.
