Voters in Greensboro elect new mayor

READ MORE:
GREENSBORO -- Voters in Greensboro have elected a political newcomer who pushed for more oversight over city finances. Bill Knight, 70, an accountant, beat Democratic Mayor Yvonne Johnson by 964 votes out of 34,234 cast, according to final, unofficial results. Johnson served one two-year term. Knight, a Republican, says four months ago no one in the North Carolina city knew his name. But he says voters wanted change. During his campaign, he also pushed for better leadership in the police department. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
