To guarantee themselves a spot in the NCAA Tournament the UNC Wilmington Seahawks had to beat Northeastern on Sunday afternoon in the championship game of the CAA Tournament. With just under 4 minutes to play in regulation junior Nassim Berhouni broke a scoreless deadlock. The ball slid past the Huskie keeper and the celebration was on for UNC Wilmington. And what a celebration it was as the team and the fans sensed a trip to the NCAA Tournament. Nassim Berhouoni said: "I just got lucky. The ball bounced up right in front of me and I just smacked it into the net. Great celebration there ! It's not just me. It could have been anybody and the boys played great." Once regulation play ended the ticket to the dance became a punched ticket !! UNC Wilmington captured the CAA Tourmament 1-0. Brock Duckworth said: " I'm estatic. Our team played phenomenal all the way from kickoff. We've had a great season. We're still undefeated at home which is amazing. We've only given up 12 goals all season, had another shutout in the final against Northeastern." The victory for UNCW also extended their unbeaten streak to 13 and they tied a school record for most wins in a season with 14. Seahawk head coach Aidan Heaney added: " We're so excited to be able to compete for a national championship and I think our players deserve to be there." The team will found out their opponent late Friday afternoon when the NCAA Tournament bracket is released.
