Wednesday was the day to safely dispose of your old or expired prescription medication. The Brunswick County Sheriff's Department collected hundreds of unwanted pills from the public, all in an effort to safely dispose of them, while keeping them out of the reach of children or teens, and folks who may use them illegally. The sheriff's department encourages people to bring their prescriptions to their office, instead of flushing them down the toilet, because they can contaminate the water. "We encourage anyone, if you have medication that you need to dispose of, please don't hesitate to give us a call," said Sheriff Ingram. Deputies, along with the help of pharmacists from Dosher Memorial Hospital, took an inventory of the pills. Deputies will then get a court order to dispose of the drugs properly.
