Leland Police and Fire play ball to collect toys

The Leland Police Department is challenging the Leland Fire Department to friendly game of softball. The two teams will face off on Saturday to help collect toys for Operation Santa Cop. The police department won last year, and told WWAY they feel confident they will win again this year. The game will be dedicated to the late Wilmington Police Officer Rich Matthews. "Its always good to pay your respects to the fallen officer. And whether it be an officer, or a deputy or a fireman, its good to come out and honor his memory," said Robert Ernest of the Leland Police Department. In order to get into the event, you have to bring one unwrapped toy per person. The event is sponsored by Toys for Tots and the Leland Police Association and will take place at the Northwest Ball Field off 74/76.
