RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - State Sen. Julia Boseman says she won't seek a fourth term in the Senate next year, citing family responsibilities. The New Hanover County Democrat announced Thursday her decision to leave the Senate when her term ends at the end of 2010. Boseman was the first openly gay person elected to the General Assembly in 2004. Boseman said in a statement she wanted to be closer to home because her partner is having a baby in January. The Wilmington attorney helped push through legislation this year that requires all school districts to approve detailed anti-bullying policies. Conservatives opposed the bill because they argued it would give special rights to gays and lesbians. Her departure gives an opportunity for Republicans to win back the swing district seat.
