Seafood sellers running out of shellfish

Thursday marked day number eight of the temporary ban on shellfishing in our area. The ban remains in effect in all coastal waters, preventing the harvesting of any oysters, clams, or mussels. Increased levels of bacteria due to runoff from last week's heavy rains prompted the ban. Seafood sellers are quickly running out of local oysters to sell for the Thanksgiving holiday. The Department of Marine Fisheries will continue to test the water quality and will reopen the waters once they clear.
