NC beach named America's best

For the first time, a North Carolina beach has taken the number one spot on America's Best Beaches List. The Ocracoke Life Guarded Beach on Ocracoke Island ranked number one on Dr. Beach's annual "America's Best Beaches" list. Dr. Beach, also known as international beach expert Stephen Leatherman gave the nod to Ocracoke based on it's clean water, sand and unspoiled natural beauty. Wilmington resident Linda Ellis says, "I think it's pretty good, draw in more tourists, more people would want to visit North Carolina, the ranking puts us on the map more." Other factors include the beach’s tourist draw-in. Thanks in part to its spooky history. Ocracoke is where the infamous Pirate Blackbeard met his demise. Wilmington resident Adrienne Willis says, "Yeah curiosity. I'd like to see what it's all about.” The ranking marks the first time a beach outside of Florida or Hawaii has held the 'Best Beach' title. So now the question is, what would it take for local beaches like Wrightsville or Carolina Beach to become number one? Ellis says, "They need to renovate and add more attractions and just build up what they got." Willis says, "Parking it is very frustrating when you go down to the beach and you really can't find a place to park." Regardless what beach you go to along the North Carolina coast, America's Best Beaches says you'll find natural scenic beauty, relaxation and southern hospitality.
