Brunswick County looking for input on new superintendent

READ MORE: Brunswick County looking for input on new superintendent
A school superintendent is not elected by voters, but you can still have a say in who fills that role; at least that's the case in Brunswick County. The Brunswick County School Board is looking for Katie McGee's replacement. Brunswick County parent Sherri Inman just told the school board what she is looking for in a superintendent. It only took a matter of minutes. She did it by going online to fill out an anonymous survey. “The questions are very thorough, just your opinion on what skills a superintendent should have whether experienced teaching, or principal area… a very thorough survey, only takes five minutes to complete,” Inman said. Last month, Brunswick County School Board members hired the North Carolina School Board Association to help aid in their search. The NCSBA came up with the idea of the survey to let the community rate the importance of certain traits. “Your superintendent is basically your other board member that helps you run the school system. Since that position is not voted on by public, this gives them opportunity to give some input in the type leader they'd like to see in the school district,” said Scott Milligan of the Brunswick County School Board. The board believes this survey will have better results than a public forum, since it is anonymous and a convenient way for residents and parents give an opinion. Inman agrees. “It's a lot easier for them than to maybe go to a meeting, you know, five or six o'clock right after work, they may not be able to make it, and this gives them more of an opportunity to know what's going on and to get involved without actually having to be there.” But to be involved, you have to fill out the online survey by December 15th. If you would like to fill out the survey, you can visit their website. The Brunswick County School Board should get the results of the survey in late January. It hopes to name a new superintendent in April.
