Community gardens are sprouting all over southeastern North Carolina; one is blooming in Wilmington. A group of volunteers gathered Friday morning to work on an addition to their community garden on Castle Street. Friday, the group started work on a greenhouse, so they can grow seedlings and get a jumpstart on the spring growing season. The volunteers purchased the cement for the project. The community donated the rest of the supplies. “It's going to be made out of bamboo and plastic sheeting. We're going to mainly use it for germinating seeds and also growing through the winter,” said community garden creator Kathryn Sisler. “The plants we have we're saving the seeds from so we don't have to pay for the seeds and they are local, natural, and organic.” The volunteers plan to open a fresh food stand directly in front of the garden.
